Customized, Themed and Fun Wedding Ceremonies – YES!

In initially meeting with couples to plan their wedding ceremony I will often say something like this. “It’s your wedding ceremony not mine, and I want it to feel and be exactly like you want it to be.”

In other words, we customize each ceremony to fit the personality and needs of each couple and family. We’re not big fans of the cookie cutter approach, and in fact find it fun and rewarding to create a setting or theme that goes from very formal and traditional to very casual and well, not traditional. A couple’s creativity, flair and personality just adds to the specialness of the day.

Take for instance the recent wedding of Alison and Chance at the Little Chapel in the Woods on the campus of TWU. They had a very beautiful and traditional chapel setting, and yet incorporated contemporary wedding vows. They wanted Scripture included to reflect their family faith backgrounds — AND they also wanted to incorporate some lines from their favorite Disney movie, The Nightmare Before Christmas. How fun!

So we included these lines from the movie into the flow of the ceremony. When speaking of finding each other and the love that developed, Jacky says to Sully,  “For it is plain as anyone can see, we’re simply meant to be.” And then in the exchanging of the rings — “I can conquer the whole world with one hand behind my back, as long as the other one is holding yours.” And of course the colors for the wedding were black and white to match the movie.

Pretty cool, huh? Now your favorite movie may not be theirs, but it may be Princess Bride or Harry Potter or Beauty and the Beast, and yes I’ve incorporated portions of all of these into ceremonies. And for you sports fans, I’ve done Dallas Cowboy and Dallas Stars themes and colors as well. I even had a race car at one venue for a race car driver and his community of racing fans!

So back to my original thought, “It’s your wedding ceremony not mine, and I want it to feel and be exactly like you want it to be.” So if you have some favorite theme or genre or hobby that you want incorporated into your big day, let’s talk!
