How To Include A Family Element

Often couples marrying who have children ask how, or if, they should take part in the ceremony. Of course every situation is different but my general encouragement is yes. This is a big day for a couple but also for a family. There are many options of including children from having each spouse say vows of commitment to the child(ren) to a family prayer of blessing being the most common.

By including children in the ceremony it gives them a sense of belonging and creates a memory for them as well. I always remind children that the new spouse is NOT in any way there to replace their biological mom or dad, but to be another loving and supporting adult voice in their lives.
